La voz de origen griego, esteno (stenos) significa «estrecho». Ver: otras raíces griegas. Esta no es una palabra castellana. Es un elemento radical que nos viene del griego y es usado en palabras compuestas, como estenografía, estenocefalia y también estenosis.

She turned Medusa into a hideous hag, making her hair into writhing snakes and her skin was turned a greenish hue.
